April is designated as “Month of the Military Child,” underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Purple is the chosen color for the month of the military child. Purple combines each branch's colors into one: the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard all use shades of blue, the Army uses green, and the Marines use red. MCEC celebrates Purple Up this year on April 21st.
We are asking all students and staff to wear purple on Friday, April 28th to celebrate our military affiliated students here at Plato! Yearbook staff will be around to take photos for social media and the yearbook!

Back by popular demand is our spring Bogo Scholastic Book Fair! It will be held at the Plato RV School April 17th - April 25th. Visit our school's library for all the fun and excitement! There are so many books to choose from for every kind of reader: adventure, sci-fi, best-selling, and even “laugh-out-loud” stories. We even have various high school and adult books to choose from. Last week, Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Loughridge attended the April Military Child meeting at the capitol where they received the official Purple Star School Award from last year. The Missouri Purple Star school designation is awarded to military-friendly local education agencies (LEAs) that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the designation receive a special Purple Star logo to display onsite and on their website. DESE honored the first cohort of schools, which included Plato, earning this designation in fall 2022. The designation is valid for three years, which means schools that received it in 2022 could reapply by March 31, 2025.
